You Made a Vow Part 2

Vows made in storms are forgotten in the calm of the storm.

You have left God's presence Ninevah. You have fled to  Tarshish. Tarshish or Tharshish = "yellow jasper" n pr m the word Tarshish was also used to signify any distant place gold, silver, ivory, apes, and peacocks ." (1 Kings 10:22) The gold might possibly have been obtained form Africa, or from Ophir in Arabia, and the ivory and the apes might likewise have been imported from Africa; but the peacocks point conclusively, not to Africa, but to India.

Your vow has a destination. The destination is Ninevah. Your trouble will cause you to vow. Your vow will cause you to seek relief. Your relief is in Ninevah. Your trouble will cause your running buddies trouble. Jonah 1:16Then the men [reverently and worshipfully] feared the Lord exceedingly, and they offered a sacrifice to the Lord and made vows.

God has a destination called Ninevah. You are in Tarshish. Have you ever considered the "trouble" you are facing is from the Lord. God has prepared you for trouble until you make a shift. god will send, prepare, appoint a tempest. God will shut your womb. 1 Samuel 1:5 But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb. The Lord will prepare a wife (Delilah) of the uncircumcised Philistines for your occasion. Judges 14:4 But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel. Jonah1:4 But the Lord sent out a great wind upon the sea, and there was a violent tempest on the sea so that the ship was about to be broken  1:17 Now the Lord had prepared and appointed a great fish to swallow up Jonah. Whale university is the place which God prepares for Jonah.

Jonah 1:1NOW THE word of the Lord came to Jonah son of Amittai, saying,    2Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and proclaim against it, for their wickedness has come up before Me.  3But Jonah rose up to flee to Tarshish from being in the presence of the Lord [as His prophet] and went down to Joppa and found a ship going to Tarshish [the most remote of the Phoenician trading places then known].

Increase the Vow. You former vows will not be enough for this present trouble. This time you will need a Nazarite Vow.  There is a Nazarite vow for everyone and their is a Nazarite Vow for me. Nazarites Persons separated to the service of God - Nu 6:2.  Samson (Judges 13:5), and Samuel (1 Samuel 1:11) Christ - Heb 7:26 Saints - 2Co 6:17; Jas 1:27

Read: Numbers 6:1-27

The vow of the Nazarite was voluntarily made by those who desired “to separate themselves unto the LORD” (v.2) for a determined season.  “All the days of his separation he is holy unto the LORD” (v.8).  During the time of his separation, the Nazarite was bound by three absolute restrictions.

  • First /Sacrifice Psalm 4:7, Psalm 128:3, he could “eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk” (v.4). no wine or grape juice or eat anything that came from the vine. The fruit of the vine pictures joy – as in the joy of harvest.

  • Second /Shame , “there shall not razor come upon his head: until the days be fulfilled” (v.5). in the Bible, long hair on a man indicates shame (1 Corinthians 11:14).  Someone who willingly takes upon himself that which causes shame has conquered his pride. “If any man will come after me, let him…take up his cross daily” (Luke 9:23).  Paul speaks of “the offence of the cross” (Galatians 5:11).  Peter teaches the believers who suffer for the cause of Christ to “rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings (1 Peter 4:13).  True discipleship requires us to be willing to suffer shame for His name’s sake.

  • Third,Separation Luke 9:23 during the days of his separation, “he shall come at no dead body” (v.6).“Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead” (Matthew 8:22).
