Names of the first 10 couples invited to the Grand return of the Nigerian Music Awards at the Africa Hall of the Abuja International Conference Center on May 19, 2007 have been announced. The Senate President, Chief Ken Nnamani and wife are top on the list. Nnamani's invitation was justified thus: "he has carried himself like a man of wisdom with a great sense of history. Where others have been unable to rein in their base desires and partisanship, he has behaved like a through nationalist, always putting Nigeria first. We will be honoured by his presence at the Nigerian Music Awards"

Every week, until the NMA weekend, organisers of the NMA will release a new list of invited guests and where possible, say why each person has been invited.

Organisers of the NMA view the event as being "more than an entertainment event. It is a national celebration of excellence. That is why despite the enormous expense of organizing such a huge event, we do not charge any gate fee whatsoever. The 1000 or so guests who board the 'Soul Flights' to the event and back are not charged a kobo for the flights. The hundreds of luxury hotel rooms available to the guests during the NMA weekend are provided completely free of charge and no guest pays a kobo for any of the exquisite buffets during the NMA weekend. This way, money is not the determinant factor whether you are invited to the NMA or not. Your positive contribution to your country is the determinant. We will invite men and women who have used their positions of power to do uncommon things for their country. We will also invite ordinary people who in our opinion have done extraordinary things in the service of the nation. The NMA is neither a birthday party nor a marriage ceremony. There is no event structured like the NMA anywhere else in the world. We will guard its unique character jealously and use it as a tool to inspire Nigerians to do good for their country."

The second set of seats allocated at the NMA will go to the Minister of the FCT, Mallam Nasir el Rufai and his wife. "In the history of Nigeria, no individual has been so misunderstood and villified like Nasir el Rufai yet what he has done in Abuja is nothing short of a miracle. His boldness and sense of mission is uncommon. He is an uncommon Nigerian and the NMA is used to celebrate uncommon Nigerians"

The third set of seats will go to to a journalist and his wife. "AIT's Gbenga

Aruleba is an uncommon Nigerian. He has written his name in gold by what he has done with the opportunity given to him which opportunity is available to many others. He may even be unaware of the impact which his TV programmes have had on national discuss. We believe that he has been the kind of professional whom all journalists should be proud of and his presence at the NMA will be an honour".

The fourth set of seats at NMA 2007 have been allocated to Mrs Obiageli Ezekwesili and her husband.

"If Nigeria does achieve its true greatness, it will most certainly be because a lady called Oby Ezekwesili was able to shock Nigerians into suddenly realising something that ought to have been obvious - gabbage in, gabbade out. Her situation of Nigeria's educational proplems, her down to earth prescriptions for tackling them and the passion of her advocacy make her a very uncommon Nigerian whose presence at the NMA will be a source of inspiration to most."

The fifth set of seats will go to one of the most visionary leaders that this nation has produced in recent times and his equally gifted wife. "No one with the opportunity of going to Calabar before Donald Duke became governor of Cross River State will miss the unbelievable transformation that has taken place there. The transformation is not just in the physical structures but on the faces of the people. Governor Duke has used uncommon ideas to create timeless impact. The Nigeraian Musc Awards will be incomplete without the presence of such a man and his enchanting wife, both of whom have siezed the power of music to make very powerful statements.

"No Nigerian has in recent memory redefined leadership to the populace and won the confidence of the people like Dora Akunyili. We have reserved the sixth set of seats for Professor Akunyili and her husband in celebration of the uncommon manner she has made bold statements on behalf of the Nigeria people, using what not long ago was regarded as an inconsequential office.

The seventh set of seats have been reserved for a true icon of the Nigerian entertainment industry and his wife. The seats have been reserved for Mr. & Mrs Ken Olumese, because of what the organizers of the NMA consider as the incredible innovativeness and indomitable spirit which have kept the Guvnor and the Niteshift Coliseum very special despite the challenges that would have totally ruined lesser men.

The eight set of seats goes to the hostess of the NTA programme, New Dawn and a partner of her choice. To the organizers of the NMA, Ms Funmi Iyanda's uncommon style and her free spirit has given confidence to a lot of Nigerian women. "In her unique way, Ms Iyanda has provided a powerful voice to a lot of voiceless people and her resilience in an industry where the casualty rate is so high deserves celebration."

The ninth set of seats will go to an uncommon preacher and his wife. At a time when there is growing doubt about the true purpose of a lot of men wearing the cassock, Pastor Tunde Bakare has never been afraid to speak up about issues and actions he considers important to national progress. He has proved that while a man of God might respect man, the only being he ought to fear is the Almighty himself. His presence at the Nigerian Music Awards will be a source of inspiration to many."

The tenth set of seats will go to a very young Nigerian and any of his parents. Said Chief Okoroji, "at at a time when the love for money and every thing material seems to have possesed most people, Detimber Chia, a school boy from Benue State has brought honour to himself and his kinsmen by his uncommon conduct.

During a recent plane crash in Benue State, the crash site which he discovered, Detimber refused to do that which would have been natural to most young men of today. He did not take any of the beautiful laptops spread all over the place. He did not attempt to convert one of the attractive gold watches. Rather than think of grabbing some of the Naira notes spread all over the place, he took off in search of rescue for the unfortunate victims. His values are the values celebrated by the Nigerian Music Awards. He will be enthusiastically welcomed at the Nigerian Music Awards."
