Zimbabwe: Gospel Diva Releases Rhumba Album

Zimbabwe: Gospel Diva Releases Rhumba Album

Harare

GOSPEL diva Letwin Berebende famed for the hit I'm Redeemed has bounced back with an album titled Ain't Giving Up, a wholly rhumba/soukous project produced by Kanda Bongoman.

The album is a departure from her previous two soulful projects - From Despair to Destiny and I'm Redeemed - released last year.

Both projects did well locally and she has since changed the tempo to do what she enjoys most.

"I love rhumba with a difference. The album is purely gospel and let not fans be confused because when one talks of gospel they talk of Jesus and that's the message in my music and not the beat," she said.

Yes, she enjoys gospel but with a difference and her third project bear testimony to this. The album has beats that will knock fans off their feet. Ain't Giving Up is about hope and encourages people especially Zimbabweans to remain strong and vigilant in these trying times.

Asked why she has done a rhumba/soukous album, Letwin said all the music belongs to God. She said the album is reflective of what Letwin used to listen as before and after she received grace from God.

"I used to listen to rhumba and when I got saved I continued enjoying the music and I think rhumba is one of the best sounds God created for us, but sadly it was for all the bas things," she said.

Besides the album, she is expected to go on a tour of the country dubbed "Letwin Berebende Live in Concert" in April this year where she will also launch the album Ain't Giving Up. The

"We hope to shoot a video of the live concert and there will be lots of prizes for those who will attend. The new album feature a song dedicated for Easter Special entitled Mazviita.

"The song is played in Zouk style and it talks about Jesus as an awesome Lord who left heaven to come and save the people.

"Though they crucified him on the cross, amazingly he paid off our debts and gave us life, how awesome?" she said.

Part of the proceeds from the tour will go towards charity.

Other songs on the album are Ndomunamata, Jesu Wangu, Masikoli sung in Lingala, which means my redeemer as well as South African dance song called Ndirori.
