Manhattan: Busta Rhymes Faces Four Trials

The rapper Busta Rhymes, accused of attacking two men, driving drunk and driving with a suspended license, formally rejected a plea deal yesterday and is facing four separate trials. Judge Larry R. C. Stephen of Manhattan Criminal Court denied a prosecution motion yesterday to consolidate the two assault charges against the rapper, whose real name is Trevor Smith. Mr. Smith, 35, is accused of beating a fan and beating and kicking a former employee last year. He turned down an offer of a year in jail to cover all the cases. His lawyer, Scott Leemon, said yesterday that the offer was the same that prosecutors made previously, and that “it’s one which Busta adamantly rejects.”
