The protocol for entering and remaining in your environment is obedience and humility. Recognition of your deficiencies makes you humble. When you meet the qualifications for a bank loan, marriage, doctor, lawyer, nurse, teacher certification, you can enter the particular environment.  You can become promoted when you become overqualified for a position.

You would have remained in your past, if you liked it. The future looms greater than your past. You quit because your future call is greater than your past. You have experienced your past. But you like your future better than your past.

Proverbs 16:18 (The Message)18 First pride, then the crash—the bigger the ego, the harder the fall. God promotes us when our character matches our calling. God called Jonah. He instructed him to go to Ninevah. Jonah's pride called him to Tarshish. Proverbs 16:18 (Amplified Bible) 18 Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. The proof of humility is Jonah's desire and willingness to change direction. He attended Whale University.

Record of Pride: Jonah chose Tarshish, Lot chose Sodham and Gomorrah, Samson chose Delilah, Judaschose 30 pieces of Silver, Adam and Eve chose the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil Today if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart!

Proverbs 25:6 6-7 Don't work yourself into the spotlight;  don't push your way into the place of prominence.  It's better to be promoted to a place of honor    than face humiliation by being demoted.
