7 Differences of Highly Effective Icons Iconic Status One of my good musician friends admitted that his “weird” behavior attributed to his quest for greatness. I regret that musicians have to choose peculiar, unique, flamboyant, unusual, weird, quirky strange or socially awkward behavior. Some of the celebrities have gained icon status by questionable or weird behavior. A number of celebrities may have gained icon status by infamous habits, peculiar behavior, strange events and personas. In addition, the death of an icon may have helped cement their icon status. An example of the icon status is Einstein, is linked with genius and inventiveness. James Brown, Dottie Rambo, Andre Crouch, Caravans, Beatles, John F. Kennedy, James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, have cemented their status as icons. I am troubled that many of the icons in this culture have been prisoners of their Music Iconic Status. Sorrowfully, many icons have resorted to unhealthy habits in order to maintain their icon status. Consider that God chooses unworthy and ill-deserving icons to represent the Kingdom. Perhaps, Sampson (Naz’irite) may have become a prisoner of his icon status. Note Sampson means "of the sun": Sampson was a Naz’irite (one separated ), one of either sex who was bound by a vow of a peculiar kind to be set apart from others for the service of God. Nazarites for life three are mentioned in the Scriptures. The history of Jewish asceticism goes back thousands of years to the references of the Nazirite (Numbers 6) and the Wilderness Tradition that evolved out of the forty years in the desert. The prophets and their disciples were ascetic to the extreme including many examples of fasting and hermitic living conditions.
Like Sampson your icon status will expose you to the:
i. Delilah = "feeble" "[One who] weakened or uprooted or impoverished" from the root dal meaning "weak or poor".)[
i. Faith gives victory over death ii. Faith gives victory over Samson deadly enemies iii. God uses unworthy and ill-deserving persons to do great things for them and by them. I believe God wants musicians to use their iconic status for his kingdom. Billy Graham invited icons such as Ethel Waters to promote the crusades and integrate the crusades.
In 1949, Ethel Waters was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actress in the film "Pinky", and the next year she won the New York Drama Critics Award for best actress. Waters sang her share of raunchy, openly suggestive songs such as "Organ Grinder Blues" and "Do What You Did Last Night." Waters significantly deemphasized her "red hot mama" image and redefined herself to suit church audiences.
Ethel Waters was one of the most popular African-American singers and actresses of the 1920s. Ethel Waters got religion in the late Fifties and performed and toured with evangelist Billy Graham until her death in 1977. Like Ethel Waters, you are unique and wonderfully made. In order to reach an unordinary world, you will use your (peculiarity) uniqueness to reach and touch people who no one else is reaching. Further, you will compose music that no one else is performing and composing in order to reach a sector that no one else is reaching. Simply, musicians can use their individualism to be devoted to God. Celebrate yourself!...God made you unique. Finally, your uniqueness can reach a sector that no one else is reaching. An icon is a celebrity whose fame in culture constitutes a defining characteristic of a given society or era. Often icon status implies distinguished association with a societal ideal or archetype. Some of the celebrities have gained icon status by questionable or weird behavior. A number of celebrities may have gained icon status by infamous habits, peculiar behavior, events and personas. In addition, the death of an icon may have helped cement their icon status. An example of the icon status is Einstein, is linked with genius and inventiveness. Dottie Rambo, Andre Crouch, Caravans, Beatles, John F. Kennedy, James Cleveland, Mahalia Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Marley, have cemented their status as icons. Peculiar, unique, flamboyant, unusual, weird, quirky strange or socially awkward frequently describes a musicians approach to life, often considered an impediment, may be a key to becoming a great musician. Musicians called “weird”, peculiar, unique, flamboyant, unusual, quirky strange socially and awkward by the public possibly will have an advantage in life. Oscar Levant exclaimed, “there’s a fine line between genius and insanity, I have erased this line.” Musicians Peculiar-Weird Behavior Niccolo Paganini, the flamboyant and romantic Italian violinist and composer, reached the height of his success in Paris and London in 1831. In solo concert performances he often played with frayed violin strings, hoping that all but one would break so that he could show his skill by playing with the single remaining string. Opera singer Enrico Caruso, who died in 1921 at age 48 in Naples, had an Italian peasant's belief in superstitions. He always consulted an astrologer before making an ocean crossing and he never started a journey on Tuesday or Friday. Monk was almost as well-known for his unpredictable behavior as for his unique musical techniques. He would get up from the piano and dance around the bandstand, and was often labeled as aloof, eccentric and weird. Even Monk's son, drummer T.S. Monk, described his father as an "unusual guy." Oscar Levant exclaimed, “there’s a fine line between genius and insanity, I have erased this line.” What is the fine line between genius and insanity? Hollywood Tolerates Strange Behavior, Up to a Point by Frank Langfitt, Morning Edition, August 25, 2006 Hollywood production companies put up with plenty of eccentric stars. Often a touch of weird behavior is good for business. But as the recent case of Tom Cruise shows, sometimes there are limits. When your friends understand your assignment, they will no longer call you peculiar-weird. Because, they will understand that God made you. You are uniquely made to fit your peculiar assignment. Your personality and peculiarity was formed by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Sprit made you peculiar-unique in order to fit your assignment. Your peculiarity is the key to your assignment and genius. Did Sampson ignore his limits? Sampson was a Naz’irite (one separated Samson, Samuel and St. John the Baptist), one of either sex who was bound by a vow of a peculiar kind to be set apart from others for the service of God. Are you a prisoner of your peculiar, weird or iconic status? An icon is a music image. A brand is an identifying mark, image, name or concept which distinguishes a “music” product or service. Are you a prisoner of your music iconic status? You don’t need to be weird in order to be an icon. We are known by the fruit that our music brand (we) produce. Luke 6:44 For every tree is known by its own fruit, The health of the apple tells the health of the tree. "An image is not simply a trademark, a design, a slogan or an easily remembered picture. It is a studiously crafted personality profile of an individual, institution, corporation, product or service."Daniel J. Boorstin Your possessions (brand-image) of the music ministry belong to God. The musicians mark is a call (a brand) to peculiarity unto God (the LORD has chosen you to be a (brand) people for Himself). Peculiar is derived from the Lat. peculium, and denotes, as rendered in the Revised Version ("a people for God's own possession") Peculiar also means possession, property, valued property, peculiar treasure, peculiar, special, jewel, particular treasure Deuteronomy 14:2For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God, and the LORD hath chosen thee to be a peculiar people unto himself, above all the nations that are upon the earth. God is looking for musicians who will consecrate and separate (self-sacrifice) themselves that he might be peculiarly devoted to the Lord. At issue are peculiar musicians struggling to maintain their uniqueness while serving God. Great musicians are unique and peculiar. Under consideration, are peculiar acting musicians conforming to the image of Christ. The music ministry needs a champion to conform to the image of Christ. Resist the urge to be peculiar in exchange to be a peculiar musician unto him. Resist! Just be (peculiar) you, devoted to the Lord. God is looking for musicians who will consecrate and separate (self-sacrifice) themselves that you might be peculiarly devoted to the Lord. At issue are peculiar musicians struggling to maintain their uniqueness while serving God.
