NAS: 'N-Word' Please

NAS: 'N-Word' Please

By Karu F. Daniels, AOL Black Voices

As Don Imus readies his comeback to radio, there are reports that Nas is supposedly planning to title his next album the racial epithet also known as 'N-Word.'

Seriously!!!

According to MTV.com, the platinum-selling rapper announced the news while headlining the last stop of the Sneaker Pimps Tour last Friday at New York's Roseland Ballroom.

The controversial title is reportedly the one he had planned to call his previous album until deciding at the last minute to use "Hip Hop Is Dead" instead.

'Hip-Hop Is Dead' was the Queens-bred lyricist's Def Jam Records debut. Selling less than one million copies to date, it didn't live up to label expectations.

Does someone have Rev. Al Sharpton on speed dial?

Nas -- legally known as Nasir Bin Olu Dara Jones -- has always taken a very politically correct approach to his musicianship (if you will). During his Columbia Records heyday (of the 1990s), he released positive, provocative and masterful music that spoke to young hip-hop minds.

A 'Greatest Hits' collection, showcasing his progressive prowess, will bow via Columbia on Nov. 6. Along with hit tracks such as 'Hate Me Now' (with Puff Daddy), 'Street Dreams' (with R. Kelly) and 'If I Ruled the World' (with Lauryn Hill), the opus will include two new singles, 'Surviving the Times' and 'Less Than An Hour,' featuring Cee-Lo of Gnarls Barkley.

A spokesperson for Nas did not respond to queries regarding this matter, but Def Jam chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid told FOXNews.com that they "would be unlikely to release an album with that title."

Reason being: "How would that look at Wal-Mart?"

Wal-Mart? Wow!!!

Rev. Jesse Jackson chimed in about it too, calling the proposed title "morally offensive" and "socially distasteful."

Check mate.
