Uganda: 274 for Gospel Music Awards

A total of 274 Gospel musicians have submitted their entries for the Victoria Gospel Music Awards slated for April 9.

The head of the nomination panel, Aggrey Ssempala, received the applications on Monday at Sun City Arcade in Kampala. The exercise is expected to last one week.

Charles Basajja, an organiser, said they are yet to decide prizes for the winners. Basajja said there are 31 categories in the award that include presenter of the year for a Christian radio station, Gospel music presenter of the year for non-Christian radio station and TV Gospel music presenter.

Other categories include Gospel Writer of the year, Acapella Song/choir of the year, traditional music choral song, video presenter of the year and Reggae song/artiste of the year.

Augustine Lule, an accountant, who is also on the nomination panel, said they stopped receiving applications on January 20.
