Feeling Sad Dr. William Augustus Jones
I have just received word that the recently retired pastor of Bethany Baptist Church of Brooklyn, New York died last night, Dr. William Augustus Jones. He was one of America's great preachers. I took a course with Dr.Jones and the late Dr. Sandy Ray of Cornerstone Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York at Union Theological Seminary in Nwe York City.. Dr. Jones was an activist and had a large voice with trumpeted the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. He will be missed. Pray for his family
The Home Going service for Dr. William Augustus Jones will be held on Friday, February 10, 2006 at 12 noon at Bethany Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York. Dr. Gardner C. Taylor will preach the euology. May God bless the memory of Dr. William Augustus Jones.

The Reverend Dr. William Augustus Jones, Jr., a native of Lexington, Kentucky, is the son and grandson of Baptist ministers. Born February 24, 1934, in Louisville, Kentucky, he is a graduate of the University of Kentucky, Crozer Theological Seminary and holds an earned doctorate from Colgate Rochester Divinity School. He has done special studies at the University of Lagos (Nigeria) and the University of Ghana at Legon. A staunch Christian activist, he has for many years been a leader in the struggle for human rights and economic justice.
Dr. Jones has preached at conferences and churches around the world including the Australian Pastors' Conference, The First All-Asian Baptist Church Congress (Hyderabad, India), The Baptist World Congress (Keynote Speaker - Toronto), and The International Congress on Preaching (Edinburgh. Scotland).
He has served as visiting professor at various seminaries including Princeton Theological Seminary and Union Theological Seminary. His published writings include: The Black Church Looks at the Bicentennial, God In The Ghetto, Responsible Preaching, The African-American Church: Past, Present, and Future, and When God Says, "Let Me Alone". He was a contributor to A Reader's Companion to Crossing the Threshold of Hope, a Protestant response to the Pastoral Writings of Pope John Paul II.
